eBay gave me a $1 coupon today.

Interestingly, I feel much warmer towards eBay than one would generally expect for $1.

Some thoughts on why this is:

For one, it was invite only, so it is exclusive (though I’m sure the thousands that received the very same coupon feel the same way).

Second, it was unexpected, and a surprise gift is (almost) always nice.

Lastly, free money is free money.

I found it surprising how much a $1 coupon made me feel more open to buying a $100+ item I was considering on eBay.  At least it doesn’t expire until August, so I can decide how best to spend this free green.
